Database Management and its Types:
A database management system (DBMS) is a software package designed to determine, process, extract and manage data in a database. A DBMS usually manipulates data, data format, field names, record structure, and file structure. It also defines the rules for validating and processing this data. The DBMS frees the users of framing programs to serve the data. Fourth-generation query languages, such as SQL, are used in conjunction with a DBMS package to interact with the database.
Some other examples of DBMSs include:
- SQL server
The database management system receives instructions from the database administrator (DBA) and, as a result, instructs the system to make the necessary changes. These commands can be loading, retrieving, or modifying existing system data.
DBMS always provides data independence. Any changes to the mechanism and storage formats are performed without changing the entire application. There are four main types of database organization:
Data is organized as logically independent tables. The relationships between the tables are shown using general data. The data in the table can refer to similar data in other tables that maintain the integrity of the links between them. This feature is called referential integrity, an important concept in a relational database system. In these tables, operations such as “selection” and “connection” can be performed. This is the most widely used database organization system.
Data is organized in one record type with a fixed number of fields. This type of database detects more errors due to the repetitive nature of the data.
The data is organized similarly to the concepts of object-oriented programming. An object consists of data and methods, while classes group objects that have similar data and methods.
Data organized with hierarchical relationships. It becomes a complex network if one-to-many relationships are broken.
